It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, not for lack of trying but because of life and work. I didn’t realize how difficult it was to maintain a blog, work a full time job and complete personal projects; I applaud those who can achieve this. Okay with that being said, I’m going to attempt to blog more often.

So much has change since I last posted. Microsoft acquired Xamarin and made it free for Visual Studio (for Indie users). That is excellent news for MonoGame and XNA game developers because is allows them to create content for more platforms. It using MonoGame or XNA, take a look at my dated yet useful XDSK, it may help you out.

VR (Virtual Reality) has become a big deal now and it’s actually works. I’ve been playing with Samsung Gear VR and it is awesome. Created a few test VR games using Unity and it works flawlessly. Speaking of Unity, I am amazed it is also being used as a real time rendering engine for short films.  This would cut production time a great deal for CG animation. 🙂

Rendered in real time with Unity

Personally I’m ready to return to animation and make short films and snippets. Moving away from flash and traditional animation, I am ready to experiment with 3D/CG Character Animation (without MOCAP). After watching many Student Animation Reels from Animation Mentor and AnimSchool it looks like fun to animate using some of the free and commercial character rigs available online.

I know it’s going to be a challenge, but with the hundreds on online animation tutorials and schools I’m sure that will not be a problem. My plan to help me blog more it to post my progress as I learn animation techniques and share insight and discoveries along the way. Speaking of which I’ve found some really nice Maya Character Rigs; I will post info and links about them soon.

Once I’ve completed my animation journey, I will return to game developing and make another game, preferably character based…

Stay tuned.
